Marathon EXCELL event; The Flora London Marathon
Anna, Kinesis Managing Director and Physiotherapist was available this year at the London Marathon event at Excell working with the Lucozade Sports Science Academy (LSSA) show as their Sports injury expert. Runners were able to put their running injury related questions to Anna in a live Q & A session. She gave advice from dealing with Plantar Faccitis, to tight hamstrings and low back problems and even a runner who had strained his thigh climbing out of a window (don't ask!). Anna also spoke on the subject of recovering from a long distance event like a marathon. She advised trying to keep moving for a few hours afterwards (not to sit in the pub or a cafe with your friends and family for hours without getting up!), and also to avoid the hot bath that your brain longs for in the first 24-48 hours and go for a short cold shower instead. The muscle soreness that occurs after prolonged or heavy exercise is as a result of bleeding and micro-tearing in the tissues. Heat unfortunately exacerbates this, where cold helps stem bleeding and reduces inflammation. Once the acute soreness starts to settle (usually 3 days afterwards) a sports massage can help to aid recovery of the damaged muscles. At Kinesis we have a very experienced sports massage practitioner who is well worth a visit. She has competed in marathon events herself so will understand your pain! If you have develped an injury it is wise to see a good sports physio quickly. They will be able to address the problem before it stops you from being able to train using techniques to loosen stiff joints, release tight muscles, re-educate the postural muscles and if necessary address your running style'
The Golfer's MOT
It is a misconception that golf is a low-risk activity. Golf demands a set of complex manouvres and relies on mobility, balance and endurance. A lack of condition results in repetitive, overload type injuries. Give yourself a headstart. The Golfer's MOT is designed to identify and correct and mechanical deficiencies within the body, thus improving your technique and efficiency and minimising the risk of injury. During your MOT we will;
Kinesis can offer you an MOT cusomised for any sport but particularly for snowsports, golf and running. Book your MOT at Kinesis today!
